GeoForensics,Inc. has been the Peninsula's lead geotechnical firm, designing segmental block retaining walls for over a decade, using all types of block materials produced by each of these leading manufactureres:

  • Keystone
  • Baselite
  • Allenblock
  • Versa-Lok

When considering block wall alternatives, the primary considerations are:

  • the height of the wall; and,
  • the nature of the soils at the foundation level.

Height -block walls are economically best suited to locations where they are filled from behind to extend level surfaces. Wall heights to 25 feet have been designed by our office using geogrid reinforcement in the backfill materials.  For walls to be cut into a hillside,  a maximum height of about 5 feet tall tends to be most economical.

Foundation Soils - Block walls are typically not effective choices where the ground below the wall slopes down steeply, although the block walls can be constructed on a drilled pier supported pad to achieve beautiful and stable results.
